Big Ow-wie

What a day!!! We took Caleb for his swimming lessons today. Unfortunately, as he was heading into the pool, he slipped, fell and knocked one tooth out. He was such a trooper and although it must have hurt immensely, he tried to fight back his tears and put up a brave front. A few hours in emergency, an hour at the dentist and we are finally back home. I guess the boys are destined for a life as a professional hockey player with the way they look!

It's Hot Here!

It is so hot here. I remember just a few months ago thinking, I can't wait for the summer. The old saying "be careful what you wish for!!"

Holiday Memories

The holidays are now over and we find ourselves looking at the various pictures over and over again. It was such a fun time with the family, the kids had so much fun with each other. Alot of the pictures had them grinning ear-to-ear, we do hope that they will remember the fun and exciting times we had. We think part of the fun was that Caleb now is older and Andrew has a true companion that he can interact with 24/7. It doesn't hurt that Caleb simply adores and worships his older brother....its good for Andrew's ever growing ego.

The kids are pictured here tucked in their beds in their final night in Hawaii. Coco and Sheepy had fun too!

Fantastic Weather

The weather has been great since coming back from our holidays. We have been enjoying sunny hot days that have allowed us to do a lot of activities outside. The kids have been riding their bikes (in Caleb's case, a tricycle) around the block.

We are trying to keep up with them and that makes for a nice walk for us older folks!

Sunset Beach

We went on a little road trip today to the northern part of Oahu. The area has less tourists and certainly doesn't draw the crowds like Waikiki. The kids enjoyed the ride up although they were battling each other with their Nintendos. We finally had to take the units away from them as they were missing out on the fabulous scenery. The waves are a little higher so the kids played around the shores as the water crashed around them. The sky was blue, the water was warm, the whole day was great!

What complimented the day was a stop at the Dole Plantation on our way back. The kids loved the pineapple floats they got. The floats were bigger than what they could handle so my husband and I ended up having them. They were so good. If you love pineapple, this stop is a must if you make it to Oahu. We saw this one dessert that someone ordered! It looked so, so good. The kids going down tonight was not a problem.

A Full Day

We had yet another full day of activity here at the Ko Olina. The kids spent the morning building these Tamiya Cars. They are car kits that the kids at the resort build (for a fee of course!!). The big race is on Thursday and they are busy planning strategy and playing with the cars in the room. I sure hope the batteries last until then. My husband is looking at the gear ratios to determine the optimal combination.

At Costco, we got these fabulous rib eye steaks. The resort has these bbqs for the guests and my husband played chef while chatting up a store with his fellow bbq chefs. He was chatting away with this army cook who cooked breakfast and lunch for 2,500 people a day. The steaks were fantastic, Andrew and Caleb actually shared a whole steak between them. I was amazed at their appetite!!!

Sharks!

We visited the various sights around the resort. One of the ponds had some hammerhead sharks swimming around. Discovering them was quite a surprise. There was no Chinese restaurant, thank goodness, selling shark's fin soup!

Helicopter Ride

My husband had talked about a surprise that got the kids excited. If they were well behaved, he promised them a ride on a helicopter. They were on their best behaviour; eating everything on their plates, folding their clothes and sleeping when they were told to do so. Although we had our house-sitter courier our travellers cheques to us, my husband implemented a back-up plan so he wouldn't be breaking his promise! Just kidding, we went to a state fair here in Oahu. The kids had fun and enjoyed this ride. It was a nice surprize and a fun way to celebrate July 4th with our American friends!

Ko Olina 2

We hit the beaches of the Ko Olina. The kids had a wonderful time building a sand castle. Andrew took the role of the general foreman and assigned Caleb the role of carrying the water to him as he constructed the castle. They had so much fun together, we were able to just lounge back, watch them play and enjoy the sun!

Ko Olina

We made it to Oahu today!!! The flight was relatively short, only 30 minutes. Caleb was all smiles before the take-off and was grinning ear-to-ear. When the flight attendant came over to him, Caleb promptly asked her "Where's the tv?" That was so funny!! After picking up our rental car, our first stop...COSTCO! We loaded up with provisions and are now set for the week.

We picked up this salad with shrimp that had been marinated in lime juice and cilantro. The adults found it delicious. Andrew said it was "gross" which prompted a new vocabulary word for Caleb. Caleb ate the salad but kept saying "gross, gross, gross" while smiling and eating away.

Sugar Cane Express

We took the kids on a train ride today. It was a nice trip through historic Maui along the old sugar cane fields. The fields have now turned into either spectacular golf courses or large resorts. The kids enjoyed the ride on an old steam engine..tomorrow, back to the pool.
Happy Canada Day!
